How to choose a wedding photographer in Nepal
Updated · 2 min read
Photographs and video are what you keep long after the wedding is over. Choosing the right team is as much about trust and communication as it is about style. Use this checklist when you meet or call studios.
1. Look at full weddings, not just highlights
Anyone can post their best ten images. Ask to see a complete gallery from one real wedding, ideally one similar to yours, so you can judge consistency across the whole day.
2. Make sure their style matches yours
Some studios shoot bright, posed and traditional. Others prefer candid, documentary or cinematic work. Pick the one that looks like the way you want to remember the day, and tell them what you like.
3. Ask exactly what the package includes
Confirm the number of days and events covered, the number of photographers and videographers, the number of edited photographs, the album and video deliverables and whether a drone is included. Get all of it in writing.
4. Agree a delivery date
Ask when you will see a first preview and when you will get the full gallery and album. A reliable studio gives you dates and keeps them.
5. Ask about backups
A wedding cannot be re-shot. Ask whether they shoot with two cameras, whether files are saved to two cards and how long they keep a backup afterwards.
6. Meet the person who will actually shoot
Larger studios often send a team. Ask who the lead photographer will be, meet them if you can and look at their own work, not just the studio's.
7. Check how they work with families
Nepali weddings involve large families and many rituals. A good photographer is respectful, patient and organised with group photographs, and knows the order of your ceremony. Tell them which relatives and moments matter most to you.
8. Understand the payment terms
Agree the advance, the balance and when each is due, and keep a signed quotation. Ask what happens if the date changes.
9. Ask how you will receive your photos
Find out whether you will get an online gallery, how long it will stay online and whether you can share private albums with relatives. Some studios, including those that use Smaran, can also build a personal wedding website where guests find the schedule, the venue and the gallery.
10. Trust your gut
You will spend your wedding day with these people. Choose the team you feel comfortable with, who listens and answers your questions clearly.

As soon as your date is fixed. Studios fill their most popular dates early, especially in the peak wedding months, so book as soon as you have your sahit date.
What should I ask a wedding photographer before booking?
Ask to see a full wedding gallery, what the package includes, the delivery dates, the backup plan, who will shoot your wedding and the payment terms.
Can my photographer build a wedding website for us?
Some can. Studios that use Smaran can create a personal website for each wedding with the schedule, venue and gallery.
